The Southern Islands are located to the south-east of Ko Lanta and provide some of the most stunning coastal scenery in the area.
- Ko Ngai – quite a large island with some good snorkelling and nice beaches – a few resorts are concentrated on the longest beach
- Ko Mook – a limestone island with the famous, ‘must-see’, Emerald Cave & Lagoon hidden in its centre
- Ko Kradan – reputed to have the prettiest beaches in Thailand, beautiful, clear water, great diving and snorkelling
- Ko Cheuak, Ko Waen & Ko Maa – 3 small islands that rise up out of the sea and offer good snorkelling and a chance to see plenty of birds that nest there
Ko Ngai (‘Ko Hai’)

Ko Ngai is the closest of the southern islands to Ko Lanta. The main beach on the eastern side is a beautiful 2km stretch of sand where about 4-5 resorts can be found.
A smaller, though equally beautiful, beach is located to the west – this beach is quieter with just 1 resort and camping is available here.
Both beaches offer superb snorkelling and, for those wanting to stay longer, there are plenty more islands within easy reach of Ko Ngai.
Ko Mook & Emerald Cave

Ko Mook is home to the famous Emerald Cave (Tam Morakot), a magical lagoon located inside the island. The only way to reach this pirate’s cave, is to swim along an 80metre long passage which twists its way through the island. For most of the way light comes from both exit and entrance with about 7 metres in the middle where sunlight does not reach. A definite highlight when visiting this island.
The main beach at Ko Mook, Hat Farang, is a lovely sandy beach that’s great for swimming and also has accommodation available. On the east coast is a small fishing village, the main town for the island, which can be accessed from Hat Farang.
Ko Kradan

Ko Kradan is known as an Island of Love as it is home of the annual Underwater Wedding held on 14th February. Around this event the island gets quite busy but at all other times it is a quiet and relaxing getaway.
There are a few private resorts along the main beach here and also many options for camping. With its stunning beaches, fantastic snorkelling, and nearby islands to visit, Ko Kradan is a popular choice for overnight adventures.
Ko Maa, Ko Cheuak & Ko Waen

Ko Maa, Ko Cheuak & Ko Waen are much smaller limestone islands that offer dramatic scenery and a chance to see bats hanging high up and birds of prey circling over head.
These limestone outcrops have no beaches and no way of getting on to the island but do offer some great snorkelling with the amazing rock formation carrying on underwater. Both hard and soft corals can be found here as well as colourful tropical fish life. Usually visited in combination with other nearby islands.
